Club Focus: Pro Steps by Steph

From humble beginnings with just two fold-out mats and a small air track, Pro Steps has quickly grown into a thriving acrobatics coaching business in the Hunter Valley. Founded by Miss Steph in 2023, Pro Steps is built on a passion for movement, personalised coaching, and helping every athlete reach their full potential.

Learn more in this club spotlight...

1. Tell us about your club and when it began.

Pro Steps began in July 2023 by owner and coach Steph, shortly after completing her Diploma of Dance. While her training was deeply fulfilling, she found herself missing acrobatics and the unique creativity and strength it brings to movement.

Steph began by teaching a small number of private lessons in studios across the Hunter Valley. As demand quickly grew, it became clear there was an opportunity to create something more personal and dedicated. She took a leap, secured her own space, and invested in foundational equipment and quality teaching to begin building what would become Pro Steps.

What started as a very small setup, with two, fold out mats and a small air track, soon evolved; more students, more equipment, and a growing community. Before long, Pro Steps developed into a space where athletes could train, grow, and truly enjoy their acrobatic journey.

2. Who makes up your club today?

Pro Steps currently works with 31 private students ranging from 5 to 17 years old. Each athlete is on their own unique acrobatic journey, with lessons tailored to their individual goals, strengths, and stage of development. They all have different backgrounds, including dancing, cheerleading and circus performing.

In addition to private coaching, Steph also teaches acrobatic dance classes across multiple studios in Maitland and Newcastle, including Thrive Dance Studios, The Dance Establishment, and CC Choreography. This allows Pro Steps to extend beyond one-on-one training and support a broader community of dancers in a class-based environment.

3. Do you offer any inclusive programs or pathways for athletes with different abilities or
needs?

While Pro Steps does not follow a fixed program or pathway, the one-on-one coaching model allows every lesson to be fully customised. Each athlete is met where they are, with training designed to suit their individual needs, pace, and goals.

This personalised approach creates an inclusive environment where all students are given the opportunity to learn, grow, and build confidence in a way that works best for them.

4. What values guide your club?

At Pro Steps, our values guide everything we do:

  • Safety always comes first
  • Progress over perfection
  • Building strength in both mind and body
  • Encouraging confidence and self-belief
  • Creating an inclusive and supportive environment
  • Fostering passion and joy in movement

5. What are you most proud of in your club?

We are incredibly proud of how much Pro Steps has grown in such a short period of time. What began as a small idea has developed into a strong and supportive community.

Beyond growth, we are most proud of the love our students have for the sport, the dedication they bring to each session, and the environment we’ve created, where achievements are shared and celebrated together.

6. Are there any goals or plans you’re excited about for the future?

We’re excited to continue growing Pro Steps and expanding what we can offer our students.

A big milestone coming up is having a student compete on an aerial apparatus later this year, a first for Pro Steps. It’s an exciting step forward and a reflection of how far both the business and our athletes have gone.

More than anything, we look forward to seeing what our students continue to achieve as they build strength, confidence, and new skills.

7. Why do you think your club is important to families and your community

What makes Pro Steps unique is the highly personalised approach we take with every student. No two athletes are the same, which we embrace by tailoring each lesson to suit the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all program.

We focus not only on skill development, but also on building confidence, resilience, and a genuine love for movement. Our environment is supportive, encouraging, and driven by progress, allowing students to feel safe to challenge themselves and grow.

8. What piece of advice would you give to a gymnast/student?

You are capable of more than you think.

Progress doesn’t happen overnight, but with consistency, patience, and effort, you can achieve incredible things. If you can’t do something yet, that’s okay. Yet is where growth begins.

Believe in yourself. There is so much talent within you, learning to trust yourself is just as important as any skill.

9. Is there anything else you’d like to share about your club, your team, or your community?

At Pro Steps, we’re not just building skills, we’re building confident, resilient individuals.

We’re passionate about creating a space where students feel supported, challenged, and inspired every time they walk in. Whether their goals are big or small, we’re here to guide them every step of the way.
