Gymnastics Updates: Paris 2024 Olympics | Day 5 (Men's All-Around Finals)

The men’s all-around final at the 2024 Paris Olympics showcased strength, perseverance, and remarkable performances, with top contenders vying for the podium.

Representing Australia for his Olympics debut and earning the 15th spot in the individual all around qualifications, Jesse Moore, was nothing shy of brilliant.

Key Highlights:

Oka’s Triumph

Shinnosuke Oka (JPN), won the men’s all-around gymnastics title after jaw dropping routines. His final score of 86.832 put him 0.233 points above second place medalist, Zhang Boheng (CHN). Oka delivered a beautiful pommel horse routine which led him into the lead after two rotations. He landed his vault and showcased fingernail biting routines on P-Bars and Horizontal Bar. His victory was a surprise, as he outperformed favourites like Hashimoto and Zhang.

Boheng’s Silver

A strong contender for gold was Zhang Boheng (CHN) who secured the second place medal with a score of 86.599. Despite qualifying well ahead of Oka and Hashimoto, Zhang got off to a shaky start. His performance on floor led to a costly result as he misplaced his timing and ultimately landed on the floor.

Bronze for Ruoteng

In third place, finishing with bronze, was China’s Xiao Ruoteng with a score of 86.364. His performances on the parallel bars and pommel horse were particularly notable, showcasing his experience and technical proficiency

Notable Performances

Defending champion Daiki Hashimoto (JPN) faced high expectations but struggled on the pommel horse, leading to a fall that pushed him to a sixth-place finish. However, his floor routine was well-executed, with clean passes and solid landings.

Frederick Richard (USA) faced disappointment after an unsteady start on the pommel horse, where a hand placement error led to a loss of balance and a fall from the apparatus. Richard ultimately placed 15th in the final.
