The Gym Spot would like to give a very warm welcome to Steven Campbell!
Steven is the Club Development Manager of Gymnastics Queensland and has been for two and a half years. He originates from Scotland and had worked in several positions related to sport when he lived in the UK before moving here in Australia.
Within his current role as a Club Development Manager, Steven's role includes primarily providing services and assistance to clubs to ensure that they grow. This can be achieved through clubs taking on programs that will enable an increase in membership and participation in gymnastics, and he achieves this through organising professional opportunities, creating networking events and providing assistance and support.
"I feel very fortunate to work with so many different people across Queensland, and it is always rewarding when I am able to assist them with any issues they may have or provide services to help them enhance their club."
During the pandemic, it was a very busy time for Steven. He was actively on the hunt, seeking information and updates from clubs, as well as working on a COVID-safe plan that would allow gymnastics clubs and other sporting clubs support throughout the pandemic and help them when it came to their return.
"The greatest challenge for our clubs would have been through the period they were required to close and also when they first opened again with extensive restrictions in place. Our clubs made a fantastic effort to ensure they were adhering to the government’s guidelines and providing a safe environment for their members."
While most things are relatively back to normal, there are still restrictions in place so that gymnastics clubs in Queensland can stay open and support their members. These include ensuring that their equipment is cleaned thoroughly and regularly, and that everyone who enters checks in.
"The clubs also practice social distancing off of the area of their clubs where gymnastics classes aren’t taking place. With the current guidelines in place following the recent lockdown in Brisbane, our clubs have also ensured that staff and patrons have being wearing facemasks."
