Club Focus: PCYC Queanbeyan

Welcome back to The Gym Spot's Club Focus; a blog that focuses on sharing stories of different Gymnastic clubs and organisations across Australia. This month, we shift the focus to PCYC Queanbeyan, a club that aims to empower youth to reach their fullest potential.

1. How did your club start?

Our club took its first steps during the April school holidays of 2022 with just 20 members. Since then, we’ve seen an incredible surge, now hosting over 500 members and expanding our coaching team from 5 to 15! This rapid growth is a testament to the thriving enthusiasm for gymnastics within our community.

2. How many kids do you train and what skills?

We cater to a diverse community of over 500 young gymnasts on a weekly basis. Our range of classes and programs ensures inclusivity for everyone, spanning from KinderGym and Junior Gym to GymStar, FreeG, TeamGym, Rhythmic Gymnastics, and competitive WAG programs. We extend our reach through Fit For Life, a police-youth initiative, and Sporting School programs within the community. Our training isn’t confined to routine exercises, it spans a spectrum of skills, from the exhilaration of taking those first steps on the beam to the mastery of backflips that add a thrilling dimension to the gymnastics experience.

3. Do you have any special needs programs?

Certainly! We provide 1 on 1 sessions designed for children with special needs, ensuring a tailored and supportive gymnastics experience.

4. What's your club's vision statement?

Our clubs vision is to collaborate with both the police and the community, empowering youth to reach their full potential.

5. What are some of the objectives of your program?

Our program aims to achieve several key objectives! First and foremost, we aim to establish a positive and safe environment that fosters an enjoyable atmosphere for all members. Beyond gymnastics skills, our focus extends to build essential life skills and create a holistic learning experience within our club.

6. What are you most proud of with your club?

What we cherish most about our club is our exceptional team. Witnessing the remarkable progress each team member has made since our inception fills us with immense pride. Their dedication and growth have been integral to the success and positive atmosphere in our club.

7. Why do you think your club is important to families and your community?

Our club holds a pivotal role in the lives of families and the community as the exclusive gymnastics provider in the area. Being the sole gymnastics club in the Queanbeyan-Palerang Region, we take pride in offering a local gymnastics centre that eliminates the need for extensive travel. We are proud to not only contribute to the physical well-being of our members, but also foster a sense of community and shared passion within the region.

 8. What's a piece of advice you would give to a gymnast/student?

Work hard, strive for success, and keep that self-belief shining bright –success always starts with believing in yourself. Last but not least…. always listen to your coach! 😉
