Welcome to September's Club Focus. This month we shine the spotlight on High Flyers WA where their mission statement is to enrich the physical and mental capacity of athletes of all abilities...
1. How did your club start?
We owned High Flyers from September of 2005 but it was running around 20 years prior. We also built a club in the UK in 1998 in an old church, mainly for trampolining, then sold once we knew we were immigrating.
2. How many kids do you train and what skill levels?
All levels from babies up to international athletes. We have around 2500 visits per week, with training varying from 1 hour to 26hrs per week, from babies to adults. We have around 300 competitive athletes and approximately 900 recreational athletes. We also have sessions where you don't need to be a member to use the facilities like: Holiday club, parties, adults, and drop-in kindy.Â
Â
3. Do you have any programmes for children with special needs?
Yes we do. We have around 30 athletes in one on one classes but also have a lot within the mainstream classes.
4. What is the organisations vision/mission statement?
Our club vision is to significantly improve the lives of every High Flyers athlete. High Flyers envisage becoming the front runners in propelling trampolining and gymnastics within WA and Australia. High Flyers want to unveil the powerful gifts our sport has to offer and ignite fires of inspiration for generations to come.Â
Our mission statement is to enrich the physical and mental capacity of athletes of all abilities. Our expertise, combined with our friendly positive accredited team members and world class facilities, encourages our athletes to aim higher in pursuit of their dreams.
Â
5. What are some objectives of your club?
We are a very, heavily, family orientated club who aims to deliver the sport of gymnastics across all abilities and ages, in a fun and community minded approach.Â
6. What are you most proud of in your club?
We won the RAC Sports West Community club of the year in 2020. High Flyers WA was the first gymnastics club to win and the first sports business to win! This was mainly for our work with special needs.Â
And seeing our athletes coming to fruition in Men’s gymnastics (had a senior men's team at Australian championships in 2024) and Trampoline we have had athletes at world championships for the last 10 years at least, with one of our female athletes winning gold for DMT in the team event in 2023. Plus having ex athletes becoming coaches for their country.Â
7. Why do you think your club is important to families and your community?
We take on kids from an early age, who have fun in a relaxed setting, learn with parents, and then as they get older they move to more structured recreational classes. A lot of students move to competitive classes. We also have a class for any age and any ability within High Flyers.
Â
8. What piece of advice would you give to a gymnast/student?
Remember the reasons why you joined gymnastics in the first place, fun and fitness, no matter what age or lability you are.
